EU Will Ban Importing Goods Made Of Dog and Cat Skin

BRUSSELS – European Commission will ban importing dog and cat skins and goods made of these skins. Markos Kyprianu, member in charge of protecting consumer rights, stated that EU consumers will be assured that no goods made of cat and dog skins will be available. The commission announced that though no breeding facility within EU member countries exist for this purpose, in some third world countries, especially in China, breeding, raising and slaughter of such animals is going on. The commission also announced that the ban is being considered due to the requests made by European Parliament and European Commission and will be put into effect right after the approval. Animal protection groups reported that millions of cats and dogs are being slaughtered for their skins globally. Such skins are used for making merchandise such as clothing, slippers,toys and hats
